The Barnum Bombers found out just how good they are when faced with like competition. Barnum faced Class AA Moose Lake-Willow River in week one and the Class AAAA Cloquet Lumberjacks in week two. After playing both teams tough, but coming up just short, the Bombers beat a quality Class A team, the Cook County Vikings by a score of 30-7 Friday night in Grand Marais.

The Bombers racked up 391 yards rushing on the night while adding 24 more yards passing. The Bombers defense held Cook County to only 212 total yards on the night. The Bombers defense playing well again as they forced four turnovers in the contest.

Kale Boomer got the Vikings on the scoreboard first, but it was short lived as Barnum scored on a Brandon Newman touchdown run and a Newman two point conversion to make it an 8-7 Barnum lead and they never looked back.

Barnum took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter as Newman hit Steve Swanson on a 14 yard touchdown pass. The second half saw Danny Warpula score on a 65 yard touchdown run and a Newman conversion made it 22-7.

Colton Selix added Barnum’s fourth touchdown in the fourth quarter and Warpula scored the two point conversion which would be the final game score as well. Warpula finished with 161 yards rushing for the Bombers while adding two interceptions on defense for Barnum.

Zach Peterson finished with 130 yards rushing for the Bombers; Peterson also had seven tackles for the Bombers defense. Sam Anderson led the Bombers defense with 10 tackles in the victory which moves the Bombers to 1-2 on the season. Previously undefeated Cook County falls to 2-1.
