UMD Scores Ten Touchdowns on Ten Posessions in 70-24 Win

Ten possessions, Ten touchdowns, One convincing victory. The University of Minnesota Duluth found the end zone on each of its first 10 offensive series, scored the game’s final 42 points, yielded just 30 total yards in the second half, and exited Sea Foam Stadium Saturday night with a 70-24 win over host Concordia University-St. Paul.

UMD, the four-time defending Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference champion, rolled up a program record 675 yards of offense while improving to 3-0 on the season and 29-2 in its last 31 games away from Duluth.


Quarterback Chase Vogler turned in SikorskivsCSP2012the most productive performance statistically of his four-year career by establishing personal bests for passing yards (296), pass completions (he was a sizzling 22-of-26) and total offense (396). He also threw for three touchdowns in addition to running for an even 100 yards and two more scores on 10 carries.


Others who were heavily involved in UMD’s balanced offensive onslaught (365 yards rushing and 310 yards passing) included sophomore running back Austin Sikorski (11 carries for 71 yards and a pair of touchdowns), junior wide receiver Joe Reichert (a game-high seven receptions for 70 yards and one score), Aaron Roth (five catches for 61 yards and one score) and fellow sophomore wide receiver Zach Zweifel (88 yards on five catches).


The No. 2 Bulldogs, who trailed the Golden Bears (1-2 overall and in the NSIC), held a slim 28-24 lead with 1:27 to go in the first half before rattling off 42 unanswered points. Junior inside linebacker Colby Ring finished with eight tackles to pace a UMD defensive which gave up just 30 yards of total offense and two first downs over the entire final two quarters (after surrendering 260 yards in the opening half).


UMD will return to James S. Malosky Stadium next Saturday night to take on Augustana College.
