WRENSHALL- Wrenshall had been playing some of its best volleyball of the past few seasons when the Barnum Bombers came to town for a Polar League contest and it was a Bombers who won by a score of 3-1. However, a new-found respect was earned Thursday night as Wrenshall played their hearts out and were in each and every game they lost against its longtime foe.

Barnum jumped out in the first game and won the first game of the match by a score of 25-15, Wrenshall responded right back taking the second game of the match by a score of 25-19. With the contest even at one game apiece it was the Bombers who reeled off two straight wins to capture the match Thursday night.

“We have such a young team out there on the floor” Head Wrenshall Volleyball Coach Andrea Ruth told Northland Sports Online. “The scores in the last two games are a little deceiving. The games were closer than the score indicated.” Ruth added “Every game we just try to get better and better, a lot of it right now is getting used to winning; that’s something we haven’t done a lot of in the past.”

The Wrens, who entered the match Thursday with a 3-2 record, were facing a Barnum team that had yet to win a match. Barnum had lost all four of their matches this season and had one won one game in those four matches.

“We need to be more consistent” Head Barnum Coach Corina Newman told Northland Sports Online, “There are things that we need to improve on and we have to cut down on the mistakes we have been making.” Newman added “A win can always build some confidence and hopefully they can continue on with that success.”

The Bombers move to 1-4 on the season and they will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Cromwell to take on the Cardinals in a Polar League battle. Wrenshall moves to 3-3 on the season and the Wrens will be home Monday when they host the Hill City Hornets.
