Hawks Score Second Straight Tennis Win

Hermantown picked up its second win in a row in girls tennis by defeating Superior 4-3 on Thursday night. The Hawks garnered thee-of-four singles matches to help them secure the win.

Madelyn Miller led the Hawks in #1 singles by defeating Cassie Hanson 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, and that was followed up by a win at #2 singles by Danielle Luke 7-6, (7-2), 6-1 over Keeley McCall. The Hawks also held a victory at #3 singles when Bailey O’Connell downed Carissa Welch 6-2, 6-1. The lone Hawks loss in singles play was at #4 singles when Stephanie Collins dropped a tight match to the Spartan’s Lindsey Sommer.

Anna VanDeelen and Mariah Ruhanen kept things going for Hermantown with a win at #1 doubles when they took a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jess Engstrom and Sarah Olson. At #2 doubles the Spartans picked up a win when Harmony Clark and Brianna Homich took a win over Elizabeth Heehn and Jordan Cuva 6-2, 6-4 and at #3 doubles it was Superior taking their third win when Carly Webber and Nicole Mattson downed Rebecca Henningsen and Madeline Bremel 6-0, 7-5.


The Hawks are now 2-5 on the season and will take on powerhouse Virginia on the road on Monday.
