Saints Volleyball Capture Oneota State Invite Title

The St. Scholastica volleyball team did not drop a single set over the last two days as it captured the 43rd annual Oneonta State (N.Y.) Invitational on Saturday defeating both Union College (N.Y.) and the host Oneonta.

The Saints opened with the Dutchwomen of Union College and won by scores of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-14. Anna Zyvoloski (Sauk Rapids, Minn. /St. Cloud Cathedral HS (Minn.-Duluth)) led the way with 14 kills, while Caitlin McKernon (Coon Rapids, Minn. /Fridley HS) added six kills. Danielle Benusa (Shakopee, Minn. /Shakopee HS) had 23 digs and Erika Birkeland (Prior Lake, Minn. /Prior Lake HS) had 32 assists. Megan Windschill (Sartell, Minn. /St. Cloud Cathedral HS) had five service aces.

CSS advanced to the championship match where they would meet up with the host Red Dragons. For the first time Zyvoloski did not lead the team in kills as that honor went to Kortney Morrin (Grantsburg, Wis./Grantsburg HS (Northern State)), who had 13. Zyvoloski added 12 kills and Taylor Tyllia (Duluth, Minn. /Duluth East HS) added seven putdowns. Zyvoloski led the team with 15 digs and Birkeland had 40 assists.

The Saints will head back to the Midwest, but will make a pit stop in Chicago on Tuesday night where they will face 15th-ranked University of Chicago. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
