UMD Hockey To Take Part In Sled Hockey Game to Benifit DASH

The 2011 National Champion UMD Bulldogs men’s hockey team and the three time National Tournament Champion Minnesota Northern will face off in a first ever sled hockey game. The event is open to the public and free to attend, but donations will be accepted. All proceeds from the event will benefit Duluth Area Special and Sled Hockey, and the Minnesota Sled Hockey Association.


The hockey is for EveryBODY Benefit Game is scheduled for September 8, 2012 – 2:00-4:00 p.m. at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center and is Open to the public and FREE to attend.


There will be a number of exhibits and activities set up in the Heritage Center lobby and concourse for all ages to enjoy including the opportunity to get a picture taken with the Bulldog hockey players. An On-site silent auction will take place with items including: hockey stick signed by 2012-2013 UMD Men’s Hockey team, framed artwork by Tim Cortes of “Champions at Last”, Men’s Hockey tickets and many more.


DASSH was started in January of 2012 by Christian Koelling and Kelly Erickson when they recognized a need to expand on the hockey culture of northern Minnesota. DASSH provides an opportunity for people with physical and developmental disabilities to participate in the game of hockey in the Duluth area. Five events were held in January through April for hockey players of all ages that are not able to play hockey in traditional leagues. A full season with regular ice sessions is scheduled for 2012-2013.


The Minnesota Northern is comprised of disabled men and women ages 16 and up. They are members of the Midwest Sled Hockey League and the Minnesota Disabled Hockey chapter of USA Hockey. The Northern have been in existence since 2006.


The formation of DASSH was made possible in part by the efforts of The Hendrickson Foundation and Courage Center Duluth.
