The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College opened their 2012 football season with a win Friday night as the Thunder knocked off the Spartans of Fergus Falls by a score of 34-7 at Rol Bromberg field in Cloquet.

After the Spartans failed to score on the opening drive of the game, the Thunder marched 86 yards down the field and scored on their first offensive possession behind Cody Anderson. Anderson took over the helm at quarterback, replacing Michael Davis who moved on to UW- Stout this season.

Anderson left no doubts about his ability by going 13-21 for 254 yards and three touchdown passes on the night. It was a 5 yard pass from Anderson to James Griffin which put the Thunder in front 7-0.

Victor Lumley scored on a 4 yard touchdown run on the Spartans next drive to tie the score at 7-7, but they would never cross the end line again as the Thunder defense continued to come up big time after time.

A 40 yard touchdown pass from Anderson to Michael Wallace with 41 seconds remaining in the first half gave the Thunder a 13-7 lead at the half. Griffin scored his second touchdown of the game on a 22 yard touchdown run in the third quarter to put the Thunder in front 20-7.

Anderson connected with Andre Simms on a 5 yard pass in the fourth quarter to make it a 27-7 lead, and a late interception return for a touchdown by Khari Howard led to the final score of 34-7. The Thunder open the season 1-0 for the first time in the history of the program.
