Subject to board approval the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton girls hockey team will have a new coach this winter. After a two-year stint by Mike Bushey, who followed the team’s inaugural coach Dick Bartholdi, the Jacks will have their third coach in the past four years. Former Moose Lake Area head coach Lance Horvat will take over the reins of the Jacks program pending board approval
next week.

Horvat was head coach in Moose Lake from 2004-2006 and was named the Section 2A Coach of the Year in 05-06. Prior to coaching the girls program in Moose Lake, Horvat was the assistant coach in the boys program in Moose Lake from 03-04. In 2002-2003 Horvat was a volunteer assistant in Chisholm in the boys program and in 2001-2002 he was the assistant boys hockey coach in Two Harbors.

Currently Horvat is a developmental, cognitive, disabilities teacher at Cloquet High School. He graduated from Vermilion Community College, the University of Minnesota Duluth and he received his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Horvat’s four-year degree from UMD is in Elementary Education and his Masters Degree is in Special Education.

NSO will have a more complete story on the hiring of Horvat following approval by the Cloquet School Board.
