Padres Defeat Port Wing 9-3 On The Road

PORT WING — The Duluth Padres defeated the Port Wing Boilers 9-3 in an Upper 13 League amateur baseball game at Anderson-Samuelson Field in Port Wing on Wednesday July 4.


Jesse Olson (3-3, 1.99 ERA) threw a nine-inning complete game for the win on two days’ rest following a seven-inning complete game win on Sunday. He allowed three runs on 10 hits and no walks with four strikeouts.


Tim Nylund, Kevin Hendrickx, Bob Baxton, and Nathan Windschill had two hits apiece for Duluth, and Hendrickx had two RBIs.


Derek Jardine and Chad Tuura had two hits each for Port Wing.


Jardine was the losing pitcher. He allowed five runs on six hits and four walks with six strikeouts in four innings pitched. Jardine and reliever Andrew Urbaniak combined for 14 strikeouts.


Duluth (5-2 league, 9-9 overall) is next in action on Sunday against the Twin Ports North Stars at Duluth East High School for a league doubleheader starting at noon. Port Wing (1-8 league) travels to Ashland on Sunday to face the Merchants in a league game at 1:30 p.m.
