Thun Named Player of the Year

Katie Thun has been named the Northland Sports Online Player of the Year for the 2012 softball season. Thun, a junior pitched for Hermantown helped lead her Hawks to the 2010 and the 2011 state girls softball tournament and a 17-4 record in 2012.

Both of those trips to the state tournament were state runners up to Park Center as Hermantown lost the in the state Class AA championship games. Thun set three records in the 2011 girls state softball tournament.

Thun had three doubles in one game last year in the state tournament. She also set the record for most doubles in a state tournament with four, and she set the record for the fewest walks allowed in a state tournament with zero.

Thun is also a member of the Hermantown girls’ volleyball team where she is a middle hitter, and she also plays on the Hermantown girls’ basketball team in the winter. The three sport athlete for Hermantown is an outstanding student.

Thun finished the 2012 season with a record of 14-3 overall; recording 181 strikeouts for Hermantown. She also excelled at the plate, finishing with a batting average of .404 and finished with 19 runs batted in. Thun was named all-conference in softball and has accepted a scholarship offer from North Dakota State University to play softball for the Bison.
