Lady Bombers Season Ends At Isle

ISLE- The Barnum Bombers were hoping to have a upset over the unbeaten Isle Huskies in the Section 5A playoffs as the Bombers had been playing some of their best softball of the season. But the Bombers intention of coming away with the upset fell short Tuesday afternoon as the Huskies knocked off the Bombers by a score of 5-1.

The Bombers, who were plagued with mistakes and miscues early on this season, saw several keys errors assist the Huskies in the sectional playoff game win at home. Isle got on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the second inning as Ashley Robinson reached on a field choice, stole second, then moved to third on error by Barnum and came into score the first run of the game.

Isle added two more runs in the fourth inning as three singles, a double and an error would provide the Huskies with a three run lead after four innings of play. Isle made it a 5-0 lead after five innings as another Bomber error and a triple led to two more runs and the five run lead heading into the top of the sixth inning.

The Bombers came alive in the top of the sixth inning and loaded the bases with nobody out, but the Bombers could only capitalize with one run and the Bombers hopes of the upset faded when the Huskies held Barnum in the top of the seventh to preserve to 5-1 victory. MJ Anderson had the lone Bomber hit on the day she also scored the only run on a fielders choice from Allanie Hanek-Siltanen.

The Bombers finish with an overall record of 10-11 on the season. The Bombers will graduate two seniors this season. Those two seniors, Karianna Duesler and Allanie Hanek-Siltanen, were captains of this season’s squad and were also part of the 2010 state runner up team.
