Lady Bombers Open 5A Playoffs With a 10-4 Win

BARNUM- The Lady Bombers of Barnum opened the section 5A playoffs on Friday afternoon with a 9-4 victory over the Ogilvie Lions with a 9-4 win at home. The Bombers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back Friday as they rolled to the five run win.


Allanie Hanek-Siltanen started off the bottom of the first inning with a one out triple and then scored along with Cheyanne Johnson on a single from Karianna Duesler. Johnson had walked and moved to second on a pass ball. Duesler scored on a bases loaded walk to Emma Casey and Kerra Rowell also scored in the inning on a wild pitch.


Barnum added two more runs in the second inning to make it a 6-0 lead, and it was 8-0 after four innings as Barnum added two more in the fourth. Karianna Duesler continued to hit the ball very well for Barnum, as she entered the game hitting over .600 before adding three more hits Friday.


Head Coach Sarah Yrjanson told Northland Sports Online “We have so many girls that can contribute, up and down the order, it’s nice to have everyone contributing.” Yrjanson added “We are starting to play some great ball. The mistakes we made earlier in the season have disappeared, we are not making as many mental errors now.”


The Lions managed to score three runs in the fifth inning on three hits and a Barnum error, but the game was never in doubt Friday. Duesler finished the game going 3-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in, Hanek-Siltanen was 2-2 with three runs scored and a triple, Cheyanne Johnson was 2-2 with a RBI and two stolen bases.


Lauren Hultgren was the winning pitcher she went seven innings allowed four runs, two which were earned. She gave up 10 hits struck out nine and walked three in the Bombers win which moves them to 10-10 on the season.


The Bombers will face Isle in the section quarterfinals in Isle on Tuesday afternoon.
