UMD Hockey Has New Broadcast Partner

The University of Minnesota Duluth has reached a two-year agreement,with Red Rock Radio to provide broadcasts of UMD men’s hockey and football, beginning with the 2009-10 season. Red Rock Radio will air all Bulldog home and away games in both sports on three of its stations–the Fan 1490 in Duluth/Superior, KQ 105.5 in Grand Rapids/Hibbing and KQ 106.7 in Ely/Virginia.

“We’re thrilled about this new partnership and, for the first time ever, to have a network of stations carry both Bulldog football and men’s hockey,” said UMD athletic director and head football coach Bob Nielson. “We are looking forward to a great future working with Red Rock Radio.”

K-Fan 1490 sports director Mark Fleischer will handle the play-by-play duties for football.

“We’re very excited about this partnership,” said Shawn Skramstad, Red Rock Radio Vice-President and General Manager. “UMD is a first-class organization and we look forward to providing fans across the region the highest level of play by play broadcast.”

UMD Sports is the latest in a line of sports acquisitions that Red Rock Radio has undertaken in recent years. Besides having the only local sports talk radio station, the Fan 1490, Red Rock also broadcasts the Minnesota Vikings on 95 KQDS and the Fan 1490; as well as the Minnesota Wild on 94X.
