Trying to put numbers together for the Carlton softball win on Friday might take something of a mathematical genius. The Bulldogs defeated a young Cromwell squad 25-0 and bashed out 20 hits in securing their 11th win of the season.

After scoring just two runs in the first inning the Bulldogs added 11 runs in the second and then tacked on 12 runs in the fourth inning to take the five-inning victory.

Christy Egger and Hannah Benson both recorded three hits in the game. Eggert scored three times and walked twice, while Benson added an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Senior Alanna Groth had two hits, including a double, and scored five times after adding three walks to her pair of hits. Megan Nelson had two hits including a double and she added two RBIs along with a run scored. Clarissa Nelson, Megan Bodin and Jessica Stanslaski all had two hits.

The win improves the Bulldogs to 11-2 on the season. Carlton started the season with an opening game loss to Silver Bay in which they were short starters and the only other loss was to Class AA Two Harbors.

The Bulldogs have three games remaining starting with South Ridge on Monday at Braun Park. Ely at home and a road trip to Esko round out the regular season. With the playoffs just around the corner Carlton should be in line for one of the top seeds in Section 7A.

While there are plenty of competitive teams along the way, the Bulldogs (11-2) along with South Ridge (10-3) should be in line to battle Cherry for the section title. The Cherry Tigers are a perfect 15-0 with only four of those games going the full seven innings.
