Lady Bulldogs User Longball To Secure 16-0 Win

The Carlton Bulldogs lady softball team picked up their fifth straight win on Thursday as the Bulldogs shutout the Floodwood Polar Bears in a Polar League match-up at Chub Lake Park Thursday afternoon with a 16-0 five inning win.

The Bulldogs exploded for seven runs in the second inning; added eight more runs in the third inning, and capped off the 16 run performance with one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning for the shutout win at home.

Carlton’s seven run second inning started with two walks in the inning and then Carlton pounded out five hits including back to back doubles by Brooke Camps and Alanna Groth, as the Bulldogs sent 11 batters to the plate.

The third inning saw the Bulldogs come up with eight more hits including a home run from Grace Macor, the first of her career and a double from Clarissa Nelson. The Bulldogs sent 12 batters to the plate in the third inning as Carlton improves to 4-2 in conference play.

Grace Macor was the winning pitcher Thursday as she allowed only one hit to A’livia Juusola. She struck out 10 Polar Bear batters while walking only one batter. Brooke Camps hit her fourth homerun of the season with a solo shot to start the bottom of the fourth inning and she finished with 4 RBI’s.

Macor finished 2-3 with 2 RBI’s and two runs scored; Megan Nelson was 3-4 with two runs scored and 3 RBI’s. Megan Bodin was 3-3 with two runs scored, Hannah Benson added two runs scored and a hit, and Clarissa Nelson had two hits and had a run scored.

The Bulldogs improve to 7-2 on the season and they will play at Nashwauk-Keewatin on Friday where they will face the Spartans in a sectional match-up. The Polar Bears fall to 1-7 on the season and have lost seven straight games. They will be in action again on Friday when they face the Panthers in Cloquet.
