Hermantown Boys Finish First – Girls Second at Proctor Quad

The Hermantown Hawks girls track and field team picked up a Lake Superior Conference Quad victory on Tuesday at Proctor when they finished with 146 points doubling up Duluth Denfeld, who was second with 61, Proctor was third with 41 and Duluth Marshal finished with 18.


The Denfeld Hunters edged out the Hermantown Boys team by a margin of 96 to 85, the Proctor boys were third with 69, and the Marshall Hilltoppers came in fourth with a team total of 20 points on Tuesday.


Hermantown’s Rachel Hoium won three events Tuesday as she captured the 100 meter hurdles, the triple jump, and the high jump. Lyla Abukhodair also won three events for the Hawks with wins in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes.


The Hawks also had first place finishes in the 1600 meter run with Nikki Roach finishing first, Natalie Stauber won the 800 meter race, Melissa Madison won the Long jump, and it was Carmen Bergstedt winning the discus and Ashley Michelson taking first in the shot put. The Hawks also won 3 of the 4 relay races Tuesday.


The Boys meet saw Hermantown winners in the shot put and discus as Jeremy Peterson took home first place in both events. Corey Anderson won the 300 meter hurdles, Alex Schmies won the pole vault and it was the Hawks also winning the 4×100 meter relay race.


Proctor had a double winner as well as Matt Welch finished first in the 1600 and 3200 meter runs; Alex Greene won the Pole Vault and Matt DeLuca took home first place in the 200 meter dash. The Rails 4×400 meter relay team also took home a first place finish on Tuesday.
