After one inning the Cloquet baseball team faced a bit of a hill to climb. The Lumberjacks trailed the visiting Aitkin Gobblers 3-0, all three runs were unearned, and the score remained that way until the bottom of the third inning. Eventually the Jacks clawed their way to a 6-3 victory behind the strong pitching of Brandon Conklin.

Conklin responded to the first inning where the Gobblers appeared to have the freshman a bit rattled by shutting out the Gobblers the remainder of the way; Conklin allowed just seven hits and he did not allow an earned run in the impressive complete game performance.

The Lumberjacks scored a run in the third, two more in the fourth, a single tally in the fifth and they tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the sixth inning to gain the victory.

With Conklin shutting the Gobblers down on the mound the Jacks hitting attack picked up with Adam Hanson collecting a pair of hits, including a double, and he knocked in a couple of runs. Kaleb Kadelbach also slammed out a pair of hits in a 2-for-3 effort.

Aitkin was led in the hitting department by Logan Quade and Dean Lynn, who ended up with two hits each. Quade and Travis Bare ended with an RBI each.

The win improved the Jacks to 8-3 on the season.
