Cloquet Invite Set For this Weekend

Golfers from all around the state and country will again converge on the Cloquet Country Club this weekend. The seventy-eighth annual Cloquet Invitational will be held beginning this Friday July 10th and continue through the weekend finishing Sunday July 12th late in the afternoon.

Event coordinators are planning for between 125 to 140 participants for this year’s invitational. Golfers will be split into different flights based on ability. The top golfers will participate in the Championship Flight and that will be medal play over the weekend. All other golfers will be placed into flights to be played in a match play format.

“The golf course is in great shape,” stated Matt Carlson from the Cloquet Country Club in an interview with Northland Sports Online.
“We are expecting a great turnout and another exciting Invitational.”

Last year’s champion, Tim Holland from Owatonna, will be back to defend his title again this year. Holland won the championship last year in a two-hole playoff against two other golfers.

Practice rounds begin Thursday morning and the championship and match play flights begin on Friday morning. The public is welcome to attend this annual event. Northland Sports Online will have complete schedule of the Invitational on Wednesday.
