Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College notched their fourth and fifth straight games on Wednesday afternoon when the Thunder downed Mesabi Range 9-7 and 8-6 in MCAC fast pitch softball in Virginia.

The Thunder got a six-hit pitching win from Katie Youngberg (Moose Lake-Willow River) in the 9-7 game one victory. Offensively the Thunder were led by Rachel Sanda (Cloquet) who had a 4-for-5 effort at the plate. All four hits were bunt base hits and Sanda also stole home twice in the game.

Denise Rodd pitched six strong innings in game two to help the Thunder take an 8-6 win in the night cap. The Thunder trailed 6-5 entering the sixth inning, but managed to score one run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at 6-6.

Mesabi Range had a chance to pull ahead in the bottom of the sixth, but the Thunder made two strong defensive plays to end the inning stranding the go-ahead run at third base. In the top of the seventh the Thunder scored two runs with two outs to take the lead at 8-6. Youngberg then came on to slam the door by pitching a three up, three down bottom of the seventh.

The Thunder are now 5-2 in the MCAC and will play at #1 Itasca on Saturday and Hibbing on Sunday in double headers.
