The Minnesota State High School League recently recognized eight high school seniors as recipients of the Triple “A” Award. The Triple “A” Award recognizes select high school seniors who have demonstrated excellence in academics, arts, and athletics. Among the winners of the prestigious award this year was Esko senior Kate Shelerud.

According to the Minnesota State High School League, the Triple “A” Award recipients are selected through a multi-level process involving member schools of the League, the League’s administrative regions, and a special committee of educators, business leaders, and members from the fine arts and athletic communities. The award is said to recognize Minnesota’s most well-rounded high school students.

The nomination itself is a difficult process and is meant to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts. Each school recognizes a Triple “A” award winner who then competes on a section level with Shelerud winning out over all entrants in Section 7A.

Shelerud is an exemplary student/athlete who has proven to be a leader both on the field and in the classroom.
Onthe athletic side, Shelerud recently committed to the University of Minnesota to compete in both Track and Cross Country for the Gophers.
