The Cromwell Cardinals saw the Vikings of Cook County jump out to an early 35-7 lead in the first half and never recovered as the Vikings go on to the 25 point 74-49 win in the Section 7A second round playoffs at Hermantown High School.

Dylan Quafie scored 18 points in the first half to give the Vikings the lead and distance they were comfortable with. Cromwell was plagued by foul trouble all night long and could get nothing going offensively in the first half as they went eight minutes without a basket in the first half.

Collin Everson and David Bergstrom were in double figures for Cook County as they managed to stay strong in the second half. Cromwell had a few small runs in the second half; but every run Cromwell had it was ended quickly by the Vikings.

Jake Ramberg finished with 20 points for Cromwell, despite spending most of the first half on the Cromwell bench in foul trouble. Jared Hutar also scored in double figures with 10 points on the night. Cromwell finishes with a 10-16 record overall.

Despite holding Andres Broman, the area’s top scorer to 38 points, six below his season average, the Bulldogs could not stop his team mates Luke Borchardt, Jonathan Hardesty, and Bjorn Broman as they all scored in double figures as the Lions defeat Carlton 91-65 at Esko High School Thursday night.

Erik Adams, who hit for 45 points on Tuesday night against Cherry in the opening round playoff game, had another stellar night as he scored 30 points in the Bulldogs loss. Lane Empson added 14 and Dekota Frear also hit for 12 points in the Bulldogs loss.

The Lions advance to the section quarterfinals on Saturday where they will face Silver Bay at 7:45 pm at Hibbing Memorial Arena. The Bulldogs end a successful season with a record of 9-15 overall and they have a young group of experienced players returning.
