Barnum Boys Fall In Overtme

The Pillager Huskies remained perfect this season in overtime contests as the Huskies picked up their third win in overtime this season to knock off the Bombers by a score of 73-71 at Barnum High School Monday night.


The Huskies who had won back to back overtime games earlier this season against Royalton and New York Mills came from behind to pick up the section win Monday night. The overtime win was the fourth straight win for the Huskies.


The Bombers had jumped out in front in the first half as the rolled along to a 40-30 halftime lead, the Bombers fired on all cylinders as the led by 10 at the break. The Bombers used seven 3-pointers in the game as part of the big halftime lead.


The Bombers who looking to win their fourth straight game saw their 10 point lead disappear and saw the Huskies force this sectional matchup into overtime. The Huskies outscored the Bombers 5-3 in the overtime stanza to capture the victory.


The Bombers had two players in double figures; Jacob Naslund who finished with 19 points, and Danny Warpuala who added 1. Brandon Newman, Rodney Mullen, Bobby Minkkinen, Jaxson Turner all finished with 9 points on the night, and it was Branden King closing with 5 points in the Bomber loss.


The Huskies were led by Cole Hunstad, who finished with 21 points Monday night. DJ Ziegler poured in 18, Matt Doss added 11, Devin Strack, and Conner Uselman both had 10, and Adam Obemiller finished with 2 points.


The Bombers fall to 17-4 on the season and they will be in action again on Friday night when they face the Esko Eskomos for the Polar League Conference Championship at Esko High School.


The Huskies improve to 15-5 on the season and they will play against Bertha-Hewitt at home Thursday night in a conference contest. Pillager also improves to 9-3 in sectional play as the season is nearing its end.
