CEC Boys Finish Regular Season With Impressive 4-2 Road Win

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks picked up a huge road win on Saturday night as the Lumberjacks defeated the Stillwater Ponies by a score of 4-2 in Stillwater. The Lumberjacks, who were coming off two consecutive losses to the two top ranked teams in the state, rebound with the two goal win as the Lumberjacks end their regular season on a winning note.

Karson Kuhlman notched two goals for the Lumberjacks and Beau Michaud added three assists as the Lumberjacks win this non-conference match-up. It was the Ponies who struck first on Saturday night as Billy Wagner got the Ponies on the scoreboard at the 9:45 mark with assists to Josh Clark and Larry Lorbiecki. Adam Hansen tied the game for the Lumberjacks at 13:30 with assists going to Kellin Lamirande and Dalton Johnson.


The first period ended in a 1-1 tie with Cloquet-Esko-Carlton outshooting the Ponies by a 12-6 margin. The Lumberjacks scored the go ahead goal at the 11:17 mark of the second period as Westin Michaud scored a power play goal with assists to Max Reinertson and Beau Michaud. The second period ended with the Lumberjacks maintaining a 2-1 lead.

The Lumberjacks made it 3-1 at the 9:50 mark of the third period as Kuhlman scored the first of his two goals to put CEC in front by a two goal margin. Westin Michaud and Beau Michaud recorded the assists on the goal. Stillwater cut the Lumberjack lead to 3-2 at the 12:15 mark when Connor Danford found a loose puck in front of the Lumberjack net and his second shot finally got past Lumberjack goalie John Scheuer.

The Lumberjacks sealed the win as Kuhlman scored his second goal of the game into an empty net and the lead was back to two at 4-2. Beau and Westin Michaud had assists on the Kuhlman goal. John Scheuer was the winning goalie and he finished with 22 saves on the night.


The Lumberjacks regular season ends with an impressive 17-8 overall record. CEC will have next week off before sectional playoffs begin the week of February 20th.
