MOOSE LAKE- Two former students of Moose Lake High School were inducted into the High School wall of fame while the Lady Rebels continued their fine season by defeating the Carlton Bulldogs by a score of 58-50 in a Polar League battle Thursday night in Moose Lake.

The Lady Rebels and the Bulldogs battled in the first half with both teams taking leads and making small runs during the first stanza. The Bulldogs would lead by as many as three points on three occasions in the half, while the Rebels twice built up a five point lead. The Rebels however would gain control down the stretch of the first half and took a three point 25-22 lead in to the locker room at the break.

The second half opened and the Rebels quickly opened up on fire, using pressure defense and Carlton turnovers to build a double digit lead midway through the second half. Carlton tried to make several small runs at Moose Lake-Willow River, but was unable to get any closer than six points late in the second half. Samantha Johnson nailed two big 3-pointers and Shaelyn Halverson had many spectacular drives to the basket, which resulted in easy points for the Rebels.

The Rebels were aided by poor free throw shooting by Carlton, as the Bulldogs could only connect on 11-27 free throw attempts, where as the Rebels were 10-13. The Bulldogs, who out rebounded the Rebels, could not overcome poor shooting and turnovers as the Rebels pick up the big conference victory.

The Rebels were led by Olivia Bennett, who finished with 15 points. Halverson added 14, Samantha Johnson scored 13, Kayla Radel added 9, Hayley Johnson chipped in with 4, and it was Taylor Miller finishing with 3 points. Samantha Johnson connected on three long range bombs and Halverson added one three pointer.

Carlton was led by Lindsey Dahl-Holm, who led all scorers on the night with 19 points; she also finished with 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Clarissa Nelson chipped in with 16, Brooke Camps added 8, Taylor Klassen scored 3 points, while Tori Zime and Ashley Anderson both ended with 2 points.
