It was a night of specialty team play on Tuesday night when the Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Lumberjacks beat Virginia-MIB 6-3 in boys hockey on the Iron Range. Of nine goals scored in the game between the two teams there were seven goals scored on specialty teams play.

Ironically the only goal of the first period came when Karson Kuhlman powered home a goal with a man advantage on assists from Tanner Robideaux and Adam Hanson and the Jacks were up 1-0.

Just 1:07 into the second period the Jacks picked up another power play goal, this one from Westin Michaud with Kuhlman adding the assist. At 2:08 the Jacks went ahead 3-0 on an even strength goal from Beau Michaud as Kuhlman and Westin Michaud assisted. Zach Voss cut the lead for the Blue Devils when he scored a shorthanded goal at the 9:20 mark, but before that power play ended for CEC the Jacks got a goal from Drew Dincau with the assists to Nate Niemi and Kellin Lamirande. After two periods the Jacks held a 4-1 edge.

CEC added a Kuhlman shorthanded goal at 2:22 of the third period with Beau Michaud adding the assist and it was 5-1 At 8:16 Beau Michaud picked up his second goal of the game as Kuhlman assisted the even strength tally. Virginia rallied with a pair of power play goals just five seconds apart at 13:52 and 13:57 to cut the lead to 6-3, but the clock was on the side of the Lumberjacks.

CEC outshot the Blue Devils 52-23. John Scheuer finished with 20 saves for the Jacks and Lucas Murray had 46 saves for Virginia.

The Jacks are off until next Tuesday when they head back up to the Range to take on Hibbing-Chisholm in a 7:30pm game.
