Esko Boys Continue Hot Streak With 77-51 Win

The Esko Eskomos continued to march on and stay unbeaten after dropping their first game of the season Tuesday night as the Eskomos knocked off long time rival Carlton in the Polar League contest by a score of 77-51 at Carlton High School.


The Eskomos jumped out early in the first half and controlled the game with an early lead. The Eskomos led by over 20 points in the first half, but the Bulldogs did a good job of fighting back Tuesday and cut the Eskomos lead to 14 at halftime at 36-22.


“Esko did a great job of breaking down our defense in the first half,” Head Coach Adam Bailey told Northland Sports Online. “We made some adjustments at halftime and corrected some things but then Esko started draining the 3-pointers and next thing you know, they’re ahead again by huge numbers.”


The Eskomos hit 7-17 3-pointers in the game where as the Bulldogs hit only 1-9 against the Eskomos. “They are a talented team with a good coach and it was special to coach against one of my mentors when I was a player.” Bailey added “We have been making positive steps and we just need to continue making them every game.”


The Eskomos were led by Jackson Lindquist who finished with 27 points including 4 three-pointers, Kory Deadrick scored 22, Casey Staniger added 12 points, it was Marc Peterson adding 7, Jared Harms finished with 4, Garrett Iverson, Ben Hanson, and Nate Johnson all finished with 2 points in the victory.


The Bulldogs were led by Eric Adams and his 17 points, Dekota Frear added 16, Lane Empson chipped in with 11, Kyle Gunderson finished with 4, Dominic Bennett added 2, and it was Zach Veno ending with 1 point for the Bulldogs.


The Eskomos improve to 5-1 on the season and they are in action again on Thursday when they host Virginia in a boy’s sectional battle. The Eskomos will also be in action in the Wood City Classic in Cloquet over the holiday break. Carlton falls to 2-3 on the season and they will be in action next in the Proctor Holiday Tournament on December 27 & 28th.
