Wood Scores 1000th Point In South Ridge Win

Dan Wood of South Ridge became the school’s first 1000th point scorer as he notched his 1000th point in a 55-49 over the Nighthawks of Northeast Range on Monday night. Wood, a senior forward saw two teammates over the past two seasons at AlBrook garner the 1000 point plateau and Monday was his turn to make history.


Wood, who saw both Bryce and Kolten Karppinen score their 1000 points as Falcons, he became the first Panther to do so when he buried an outside jump shot for his 1000th point as the Panther won this conference road match up at in Babbitt Monday night.


The Panthers opened up a first half lead of five points as they took a 28-23 lead into the locker room at halftime. Both teams continued to battle in the second half but in the end it was the Panthers picking up the six point road victory.


Wood led the Panthers in scoring with 20 points on the night; he also connected on five three-pointers in the win. Robbie McQuade added 17 points, Dominic Janke finished with 10 points, and it was Kody Karppinen who ended the South Ridge scoring with 8 points on the night. The Panthers also sank six more free throws in the win; the same amount as the margin of victory.


The Night Hawks were led by Sam Eisenhuth who finished with 16 points, Erik Bjorgo ended with 13, Cody Luzaich added 10 points, Jack Vraa finished with 5, and Nolan Blomberg who chipped in with 4 points in the loss, and rounding out the Northeast Range scoring was Jordan Villebrun who finished with 1 point.


The Panthers improve to 2-1 on the season and they are in action again on Thursday when they travel to Wrenshall, to face the Wrens in a sectional match-up. The Night Hawks fall to 2-1 on the season at they will play at Chisholm on Friday night.
