A six goal outburst in the second period helped lead the Proctor Rails to a 10-3 win over Mora/Hinckley/Finlayson in boys hockey on Thursday night.

Cade Hella opened the scoring for the Rails by picking up his first high school point with an unassisted goal at 2:45 of the first period. Jeremy Lopez added a second goal for the Rails at 3:30 and Jack Nikko made it 3-0 at 9:46. The Mustangs fought back with a pair of goals by the time the first period closed making it 3-2, but that would be all the closer they would get.

Lopez scored his second goal at 2:18 of the second and that set off a wild scoring frenzy for Proctor. At 2:37 it was Lopez adding his third goal of the game, at 6:11 it was a power play goal by Ian Ecklund, then Lopez notched his fourth tally at 8:07, that was followed by a Jimmy Merling goal and finally a Billy Ciesleski goal to round out the scoring. At the end of the second the Rails were up 9-3.

Troy Jones cut into the Rails lead at 2:21 of the final period, but Ty Rackliffe added a final goal for the Rails at 11:30 of the third to end the scoring.

While Lopez led the team in goals with four, the Rails also had a big day from Jesse Scanlon who provided five assists.

Jacob Fremont made 20 saves on 30 shots for the Mustangs, while Proctor goaltender Paul Hegstrom finished with 16 saves on 19 shots.

After two games the Rails are 2-0 and have outscored their opponents 18-3. The first game of the season the Rails beat the Two Harbors Agates 9-0.

Next up for Proctor will be Cloquet-Esko-Carlton in Cloquet on Tuesday.
