On Monday November 21st when the Carlton Boys Basketball team takes the hardcourt for the first official practice of the season; an old and yet new familiar face will be at the helm, 2002 Carlton graduate Adam Bailey will be the new head boys basketball coach.

Bailey, a familiar name in the Carlton Bulldogs basketball lore; scored 1702 points in his playing days and was part of an era of a strong program and success at the state tournament level. Bailey recently sat with Northland Sports Online and discussed his new role as a head basketball coach.

Bailey stated “I want to have the basketball program return to the same level as when I was a player.” Bailey added “It’s going to be new experience for me being in this role as head coach.” “I plan on using the tools and things I was taught and using them to help this program.”

Bailey will be taking over a boys program which has struggled recently with wins, “We need to get back that winning feeling and get the program back to where it was years ago.” Bailey acknowledged it’s going to be a bit tough and a learning experience for him but believes he is up for the task.

This will be Baileys first head coaching position and “dealing with all the administrative things that come with the job is something that I will have to get used to.” Bailey added “I’m a business man in Cloquet and not working at the school, which will be a disadvantage for me, but I will learn as is go.”

Bailey told Northland Sports Online it about developing a program and building the program, the wins may be few to start but we want the program to grow and start winning and eventually get back to the state tournament. “Although I was a freshman, I did to play at the end of both games and experience the thrill of it, but more importantly I saw the effort and work that it took to get to that level”
