CEC Outlasts Marshall

The 4th seeded Cloquet Lumberjacks played host to the 5th seeded Duluth Marshall Hilltoppers in the Section 7AA quarterfinals. The Lumberjacks outlasted the Hilltoppers 2-1 to move into the semifinals.

The evenly matched Lumberjacks and Hilltoppers took a 0-0 score into the 3rd period. It took 10:12 for the first goal to be scored when Duluth Marshall’s Lane Krenzen found the back of the net to give them the first lead of the game. Cloquet answered that goal just 27 seconds later when Ryan Nelson and Jack Kuhlman assisted Trevor Inman who got one past the Hilltoppers goalie, knotting it up at 1-1. 2 minutes later, Ryan Nelson scored the game winner for the Lumberjacks to send them to the semifinals.

Eric Newman stopped 22 shots in the win for the Lumberjacks, while Makaio Goods stopped 23 in the loss for the Hilltoppers.

The Hilltoppers end their season with a 9-15-2 record. The Lumberjacks improve to 13-13 on the year. They will face the top seeded Grand Rapids Thunderhawks on Saturday, February 20th at AMSOIL Arena. The puck will drop at 12:00pm.
