The Ashley Abrahamson Memorial Girl’s Fastpitch Softball Tournament took place at Braun Park this past weekend. In all a total of 24 teams participated in the U-12 and U-14 age divisions in a tournament held in the memory of its namesake who passed away 12 years ago in a tragic car accident.

The U-12 title went to Northwestern which defeated Grand Rapids 7-5 in the championship game and the U-14 title was won by the Superior Ice which downed Northwestern 12-1 in the title game.

The tournament was started by Ron Tondryk who was Abrahamson’s coach at the time of her accident and has been continued by Tondryk and his daughter Sarah who was a teammate and friend of Ashley’s.

As part of the tournament each team has a player deemed the Ashley Award winner which focuses on the attributes that Abrahamson carried during her time on the field and as a person.

In the U-12 Division the third place game was won by Two Harbors which beat the Cloquet Hammers 10-5 and the Consolation Championship went to Becker which beat Cloquet Gordy’s Hi-Hat 23-22.

The U-14 third place trophy went to the Proctor Storm a 7-1 victor over the Minnesota Dynamite, while the consolation was taken by Buffalo an 11-0 winner over the Proctor Storm.
