Padres Pick Up 12-5 Win

DULUTH — The Duluth Padres defeated the Marenisco (Mich.) Milltowners 12-5 in an Upper 13 League baseball game at Bulldog Park on Sunday.

Winning pitcher Chris Vendela (2-1, 2.70 ERA) had 12 strikeouts in a complete game effort. Vendela allowed three earned runs on 11 hits, 2 walks, and one hit batsman.

Duluth was leading 7-0 after five complete innings, but Marenisco came to within 7-4 with two runs in each in the sixth and seventh innings. Duluth tacked on five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 12-4. Marenisco had one run in the ninth.

Bob Baxton led Duluth with three hits, two runs scored, and three RBIs. Matt Chruscielski also had three hits, including a triple, and two runs scored. Nick Moran and Keith Gunderson had two hits apiece for Duluth. Moran had two RBIs.

Robert Brunelle and Cody Mahler had three hits each for Marenisco, and Lance Perron and Nick Erickson added two hits each.

Losing pitcher Aaron Holtz allowed three earned runs on five hits and five walks in three innings. He had four strikeouts.

Duluth is now 2-3 in Upper 13 League play and 6-4 overall. Marenisco drops to 2-5 in the Upper 13 League.
