COHASSET- Tuesday afternoon saw the Rebels of Moose Lake-Willow River looking to pull more upsets and continue on in the Section 7AA double elimination playoffs, but the Rebels bats were silent for most of the afternoon as the Rebels fell twice on Tuesday and were eliminated from the Section 7AA playoffs.

“We came in with a lot of hope that we could play well, but I think the fact we hadn’t been in this situation for over ten years it was a little too much pressure.” Head Coach Andrew Miller stated to Northland Sports Online. “Both teams hit the ball well against us today and we just couldn’t get anything going.” Miller added “I am very proud of how hard these girls worked to get here they deserved to be in the final four.”

The Rebels opened play Tuesday afternoon with a 9-1 loss to the Cloquet Lumberjacks, Cloquet jumped out early with runs in each of the first four innings. The Rebels only managed one run which came in the top of the seventh inning. Cloquet’s Denise Rodd held the Rebels to only four hits on the game; Kaitlyn Greene scored the only Rebels runs in the loss.

The Rebels, facing elimination then faced the Eveleth-Gilbert Golden Bears who had fallen to the Hermantown Hawks. The Golden Bears jumped out to an early lead gaining a 5-0 advantage before the Rebels came to bat in the first inning. Moose Lake-Willow River scored once in the bottom of the first inning but the Golden Bears answered again with two runs in the second. The Rebels finished with seven hits in the game but could not overcome the Golden Bears huge lead as they ended up losing by a final score of 14-4.

The Rebels finished the season with an overall record of 10-10 on the season and they will lose eight graduating seniors on the year. Northland Sports Online would like to wish all the future success to all the Rebel graduates this season.
