The Cloquet girls softball team had a busy, but productive day on Saturday. The Jacks hosted three teams at Braun Park and they came away with three wins. Opening the day the Jacks downed Bemidji 16-6 in six innings, then beat Grand Rapids 5-4 in extra innings and they wrapped up the day by downing Big Lake 10-7.

Against Bemidji the Lumberjacks were in a slugfest throughout before prevailing and pulling away in the latter innings. Senior pitcher for Cloquet, Denise Rodd, struggled holding the Bemidji bats down, but did a better job as the game progressed and finally prevailed in the win.

On the hitting front the Jacks got some fine performances. Dalyce Gustafson rapped out five hits including a long home run; Lizz Jezierski added three hits including a triple and Shania Paulson had three this including a double. Paulson finished with four RBIs, Jezierski scored four runs and Gustafson scored three times.

Senior hurler Haley Sobczak pitched the second game extra inning win and faced a similar situation as Rodd in the first game. The opposition smacked out 11 hits, but Sobczak buckled down and fought the Thunderhawks enough to get an impressive win. Chandler Beaupre had two hits to lead the Jacks offense.

Beaupre pitched a fine game in game three a 10-7 win over Big Lake. She went five innings and only gave up five hits, but late in the game she suffered an injury and Rodd came in to pick up the save despite giving up multiple hits.

Leading the attack for Cloquet was Gustafson again who had three triples in the game and Kayla Masessa who had a pair of doubles.

The three wins give Cloquet a five-game winning streak and an overall record of 10-3.
