For the eighth time in school history the Proctor Rail football team is headed to the Minnesota State High School Football Tournament following last nights 34-13 win over neighborhood rival Esko.  The Rails were able to build a 21-0 halftime edge and then held off the Eskomos using a stout defense and an offense that had just enough octane to see Proctor into another state tournament.

The Rails scored the only touchdown of the first quarter when Terrance Wenzel scored on a six yard touchdown run and John Aase added the conversion kick to make it 7-0 after the opening stanza.  Chase Urie caught a pass early in the second quarter from quarterback Jake Malec and took the ball 62 yards for a score pushing the Proctor lead to 13-0.
Proctor capped off the first half scoring when Wenzel slipped into the end zone on a five yard touchdown scamper making it 21-0 when Aase hooked up with Wenzel for the two-point conversion.
Esko finally got on the board in the third quarter when quarterback Nick Emanuel slashed into the end zone on a two-yard touchdown run and Selena Shady booted the extra point to cut the lead to 21-7.
Proctor answered back early in the final quarter when Malec crashed in from the one yard line for a touchdown building the lead to 27-7.
Minutes later the Eskomos responded on a one yard touchdown run from Jaxson Turner, but the extra point kick was blocked keeping the Rails lead comfortable at 27-13.
The Rails finally finished off the scoring when A.J. Maas scored on a three-yard touchdown run and Aase added the extra point kick for a 34-13 victory.
Wenzel had a terrific game as he finished with two touchdowns, a recovered onside kick, two fumble recoveries and he converted a two-point conversion.
For Esko Jaxson Turner was held to 105 yards rushing on 21 carries, but the star player also recovered a fumble and was solid on the defensive side of the ball.  Jake Malec, Proctor’s quarterback, passed for 230 yards and Maas added 106 yards on the ground in 32 attempts.
Proctor is 7-3 now on the season and will play the Section 8 champions Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton at 3pm on October 31st in Brainerd.
Esko, which dealt with a plethora of injuries all year long including the playoffs, finishes the season at 7-3.
