Cloquet, Hermantown Advance To Semi’s

The Cloquet Lumberjacks and Hermantown Hawks both advanced to the semifinal in the Section 7A playoffs.

The Lumberjacks advanced by beating the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks, 2-1. The offense was powered behind Kade Bender, who scored the first and second goals of the game. The first goal came at the 12th minute off a pass from Andre Couture. Bender scored his second goal at the 38th minute, this one assisted by Jack Waugh. Logan Woock scored an unassisted goal for the Thunderhawks at the 66th minute to make it a 2-1 final. Jay Boder blocked 5 shots in the victory for the Lumberjacks.

The 2nd seeded Lumberjacks, who are now 13-4-1 on the season, will host Chisago Lakes on October 20th with a 4:30 start.

Hermantown reached the semifinals with a dominating win over the Proctor Rails, winning 5-0. It only took 3 minutes for the Hawks to gain the momentum with Siji Gonzalez finding the back of the net from a Damin Pilon pass. Gonzalez recorded another goal at the 21st minute, this time off a pass from Daniel Hedstrom. Gonzalez would net a hat trick at the 39th minute of the 1st half, scoring off an assist from Ryan Lenz. In the 2nd half, Jared Klang scored unassisted at the 74th minute. Hermantown would score once more with Klang assisting Lenz at the 79th minute to finalize the win. Devin Lenz stopped 5 shots in the win for the Hawks.

The top seeded Hermantown Hawks improve to 16-0-1 on the year and will host Legacy Christian Academy at home on October 20th. The start time is still TBA.
