A walk in the bottom of the seventh inning allowed the winning run to score and the Floodwood Polar Bears managed to snatch a victory from defeat in their 3-2 win over Esko on Tuesday night.

The early part of the game was an impressive pitchers duel between Esko’s Jarred Mattson and Floodwood’s Trevor Bernsdorf. Mattson threw 6 2/3 innings and gave up just three runs on six hits. Bernsdorf was even better as he threw 6 innings giving up just two runs on five hits and fanning 10 Eskomos.

“He might be as good as were going to see this year,” said Esko coach Ben Haugen. “Jarred took the loss for us, but he pitched a gem. He ran out of gas in the seventh inning and we had to bring in a cold Max Reinertson, who walked the final run in.”

Floodwood scored first in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Bernsdorf. Esko responded in the sixth inning with a stolen base by Reinertson and then a two-base throwing error by the Polar Bears which tied the game at 1-1. Esko took the lead in the top of the seventh inning on a single by Jake Stainbrook and a couple of bunts that gave them the lead. However, the Polar Bears rallied and eventually scored on a walk to end the game.

Riley Bernsdorf went 2-for-2 for Floodwood, while Reinertson gathered a pair of hits for Esko and Josh Green tripled for the Eskomos in the third inning.
