Yellowjacket women’s soccer coach Melissa Nelmark has announced that Syna Graber, a transfer from Lake Superior College has committed to play soccer for the Yellowjackets beginning in the fall of 2011. A native of Proctor, Minn., Graber didn’t play last season while attending LSC. She is the fourth recruit to commit to the team for 2011.

“Syna is an excellent local player who we are happy to have join us. She brings a really positive energy and a passion for the game and she really connected with the team on her visits,” Nelmark said. “She is a team player and we are really glad to have her on board. We expect her to contribute right away.”

A three-year letterwinner at Proctor High School, Graber was among the top-ten defenders in the area during her senior year of high school. A position where offense isn’t a priority, Graber contributed four assists to the Rails on the year. Off the soccer field, Graber was a part of the Proctor swimming team for two years and also ran track for one year, receiving letters in both sports. She was the manager for the Proctor ski team and participated in the curling program at the DECC for two years.

“I’m excited to get back on the field, and playing with a new group of girls and learning from them,” Graber said. “This is a great opportunity.”

Graber has already been exposed to the coaching world as well, having coached youth soccer and gymnastics and mentoring kids in various other sports.

Graber intends to major in elementary education at UW-Superior, with a focus math at either the elementary or secondary levels. She will minor in coaching.

“I chose UW-Superior because they have a great education program and I have heard great things about the campus. They are a small school, and they offer everything that I am looking for,” Graber said.
