BARNUM- The Barnum Bombers, looking to capitalize on all their success from one year ago have started off this season on the same path as they did a year ago when they were runners up at the girls state softball tournament. The Bombers were tested Thursday afternoon but came away with a 2-1 victory in nine innings.

The Bombers opened their regular season with a 4-2 win over McGregor Tuesday afternoon at McGregor. In the win over McGregor it was Lauren Hultgren getting the win for Barnum as she struck out nine batters in the Bombers victory.

Allainie Hanek-Siltanen was 3-4 with two doubles in the win over the Mercuries. The senior captain also had a huge game for the Bombers as she went 3-3 on the afternoon and added a triple as one of her hits.

On Thursday in a bitterly cold and windy day it saw a battle between the Polar Bears of Floodwood and the Bombers battling into extra innings. With the game tied at 1-1 going into the ninth inning, it was decided based on daylight and the cold that was going to be the last inning either way.

Allainie Hanek-Siltanen scored the game winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Bomber the one run win at home. Hanek-Siltanen scored both Bombers runs and she added one hit. Jenna Shanda who finished 1-4 on the afternoon knocked in both runs for Barnum and Lauren Hultgren struck out seven batters to pick up her second win of the season.
