Last season it was a three point loss to the Braham Bombers the motivated the Esko Eskomos to make a run through the playoffs and once again set a match-up with the number one seeded and number one ranked team in Class 2A Brahma Bombers. The Eskomos who had things go their way for the first half, saw the Bombers come back in the second half as Braham comes away with 63-52 win at UMD.

The first half was a slow it down low scoring contest as Esko led 26-19 at the break. Esko was led in the first half by Keely Deadrick and Savanna Trapp. Deadrick scored 11 first half points and Trapp added 6 before the break. Braham standout Rebekah Dahlman was held to only two first half points, spending much of her time on the bench after she picked up two quick first half fouls.

The second half was a totally different game as the Bombers lit up the Eskomos with 44 second half points to come away with the 11 point win. Dahlman scored an amazing 26 points in the second half to lead the comeback and a return trip to the girl’s state basketball tournament. Braham will face either Pequot Lakes or East Grand Forks; those two teams meet Friday at Bemidji State in the section 8AA championship game.

Deadrick finished with a team high 20 points on the night for the Eskomos, Savanna Trapp ended with 14, Lydia Pelletier, Marisa Shady, and Alyson Glumac all had 6 points in the Eskomos loss.

Following Dahlman for the Bombers was Kelsey Sorenson who finished with 21 points on the night including 4 3-pointers. Liz Anderson chipped in with 5, Hannah Dahlman ended with 4 points, Kayla Nickles added 3, and it was Katie Nickles rounding out the Braham scoring with 2 points.

“We battled in the first half” Head Coach Scott Antonutti stated. “They got into foul trouble and we played they way we had to and came out with a nice halftime lead.” Antonutti added “the second half saw Dahlman take over and with all the athletes they have they were hard to beat.” The Eskomos finish the season with a 26-4 record overall including an 18-0 start creating many great memories of this season.

Coach Antonutti probably summed up the season best, commenting to NSO. “Although it was a disappointing loss, I’m very pleased with our season. We may not have reached our ultimate goal, but I think we proved again tonight that we should be considered one of the best teams in our class in the state. Our girls battled until the end and I’m proud of all our kids and the effort they had tonight and throughout the season.”
