Wrenshall Bays Get Playoff Win

The Wrenshall Wrens picked a perfect time to get their first win of the season as the Wrens opened up the Section 7A playoffs win a win Tuesday night over rival Carlton 53-51 at Carlton High School.


The Wrens who trailed at the break 22-20 came back in the second half and pulled out a win over the eighth seeded Bulldogs. The Bulldogs had previously defeated the Wrens twice this season in Polar League play.


The Wrens finished with three players who scored in double figures on Tuesday, Brett Johnson and Derek Duncan each had 13 points in the Wrenshall win, Pat Gustafson added 11, Mark Mallon finished with 8, Jack Dolter chipped in with 6, and it was Matt O’Connor rounding out the Wrenshall scoring with 2 points.


The Bulldogs were led by Lane Empson who scored 12 points on the night, Matt Lund, Erik Adams, and Kodie Peterson all finished with 9, Marc Shoberg added 5, Dekota Frear pitched in with 3, and it was Kyle Gunderson and Nick Vacura each finishing with 2 points.


With the victory, the Wrens improve to 1-21 overall on the season and they will face the sections number one seeded Lakeview Christian Academy of Duluth. The Bulldogs season comes to an end Tuesday night as they finish the season with a 5-20 record overall.
