Polar League Girls All-Conference Selections Named

The 2010-2011 Polar League All-Conference selections were made after a meeting of the conference coaches on Sunday February 27th at Perkins in West Duluth. Two years running it was a Newman named most valuable player for the conference and again this season another Newman was named the Conference MVP, and that was senior Jessica Newman.


Newman, the MVP averaged 20 plus points per game this season to go along with four assists per game, while also averaging six rebounds and three steals per game. Newman also shot 53% from the field, 34 % from behind the three point line and she shot over 75 % from the charity stripe.


Named to the 2010-2011 All-Conference first team were, Alissa Autio from Floodwood, Brea Boomer and Ashley Deschampe from Cook County, Keely Deadrick from Esko, and rounding out the first team was Jessica Newman’s team mate from Barnum, Katie Myhre. Autio, Newman, and Deadrick were also first team selections last season.


Players chosen to the second team all conference were, Maija Rauvola from Floodwood, Savanna Trapp and Lydia Pelletier form Esko, Sarah Sample of McGregor, and Katelyn Adams from Two Harbors.


Those named honorable mention include Maddy Adamczak from Moose Lake-Willow River, Molli Durovec of Floodwood, Ailee Larson from Cook County, Makayleigh Cahoon and Lisa Peterson of Cromwell, Marissa Shady and Alyson Glumac of Esko, Maria Burcar from Wrenshall, and Claire Rodgers form Barnum.


All of these all-conference selections will take part in an all-star basketball match-up on March 28th at Barnum High School. The game will also have a skills competition. The Polar League Boys all-conference selections will also have an all-star game and skills competition.
