The CEC boys tennis team took on local AA powerhouse Duluth East this past Monday at home and took away only one win but pushed to three sets in four of the seven matches.
On a cold and windy day only junior Robbie Sobczak at second singles was able to come away with a win as he took the second set 6-4 and the third set 7-5 after losing a close 4-6 first set to a strong hitting Elliot Schneider.
Additionally, both 3rd and 4th singles took opponents to third sets. Fellow juniors Joseph Gogchuik lost 5-7 to Ryan Alturaylia and Anders Pertler lost 8-10 in a super-tie break to E.J. Hietela as the team event had been decided.
At first doubles Lumberjack senior Christian Pritchett and junior Josh Keith lost a three setter to Mark Holliday and Derek Boese.

Coach Derek Johnson has his Lumberjacks at 6 wins and only 2 losses and one win in the Lake Superior Conference, dominating Superior back in early April. They continue their LSC matches Tuesday at home versus Ashland before playing range teams with Grand Rapids and ranked 7A teams Hibbing and Virginia over the next week. They already have a convincing win against sectional rival Pine City as well.
