MLA Boys Advance In Section 5A Playoffs With A 5-1 Win

Moose Lake Area bulled its way into the second round of the Section 5A boys hockey tournament on Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory over Legacy Christian Academy at Riverside Arena in Moose Lake.

The Rebels built a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals just 1:19 apart. At 9:49 Tyler Cisar gave the Rebels the lead with Zach and Josh Cisar adding the assists. Zach Cisar followed with a goal of his own at the 11:08 mark of the season with Josh Cisar notching the lone assist and the Rebels were up by a pair of goals in a period that they outshot the Saints 10-4.

Zach Cisar made it 3-0 with his third goal of the game just 51 seconds into the second period as Tyler Cisar added an assist. The Saints finally got on the board with a power play goal by Tyler Arenz at 6:17, but exactly one minute later Chris Gassert returned the favor by scoring on the man advantage for the Rebels with the assist going to Jake Cisar. MLA led it 4-1 after two periods and held a 22-12 edge in shots.

Tyler Cisar added his second goal of the game for the Rebels at 6:46 of the third period to end the scoring for both teams. Josh and Zach Cisar both assisted on the final goal for the Rebels.

Tanner Balk finished with 30 saves for the Saints on 35 shots, while Austin Lanoue made 17 saves on 18 shots for the Rebels.

MLA will now move into the Section 5A semi-finals on Thursday when they play on the road at Rogers against the #2 seed.

Other winners in Section 5A on Tuesday were; Sauk Rapids-Rice, St. Michael-Albertville and Princeton.
