DULUTH- Sometimes team leaders shine when things get tough and that’s exactly what happened Monday night as Keely Deadrick shined once again to help the Eskomos knocked off a pesky Duluth Central Trojan basketball team by a final score of 63-55. It was Deadrick who broke her own school record, which she set less than a week ago against Pequot Lakes by scoring 41 points to break the school’s single game scoring record for the second time this season.

The Duluth Central Trojans entered the game Monday with a 7-13 record, but they gave the Eskomos all they could handle and more, pushing Esko to the Limit. The Trojans led 55-54 with 3:20 remaining in the game, but the Eskomos went on a 9-0 run to close out the scoring and end the hopes of a Trojans upset over the state ranked Eskomos.

The Trojans and Eskomos battled in the first half with both teams holding small leads only to see the other team fight back. The Trojans did manage to hold on to a one point 30-29 lead at halftime. Esko however, came out on fire in the second half and started bombing three-pointers, which led to a 14 point 48-34 lead midway through the second half.

The Trojans however didn’t go away as they fought back and took a lead late in the game, but it was Esko’s Deadrick who continued to lead the way as she scored a couple baskets and hit two free throws down the stretch to seal the win. Lydia Pelletier added two free throws as well in the last minutes to make the difference too much for the Trojans to overcome.

“We didn’t turn the ball over tonight,” Head Coach Scott Antonutti told Northland Sports Online. “We shot well in the second half and Keely had another great game.” Antonutti added “To set the record twice in less than a week is an amazing accomplishment.” Deadrick scored 36 last week in a loss to the Patriots.

Following Deadrick in scoring was Savanna Trapp with 7 points, Lydia Pelletier, Kallyn Knutson, and Marisa Shady all had 4 points each, Bailey Mudek finished the Eskomo scoring as she closed with 3 points in the Esko win.

The Trojans were led by Sarah Fleissner who finished with 12 points, Becca Hendrickson added 11, Leah Hamm and Mary Von Rueden each added 10, Emily DesMarais and Chandler Micheau both finished with 4, Kayla Pederson added 3, and Molly Jazdzewski finished with 1 point.

The Eskomos move to 20-2 on the season and they will face section leading Braham on Thursday night at Braham High School. The Trojans fall to 7-14 on the season and the host the Ashland Oredockers on Thursday night.
