Steen Hits 1000 Points in Loss

Kassidy Steen scored a game high 24 points en-route of her reaching the 1000 point plateau as the Lumberjacks would fall to the North Branch Vikings by a score of 60-48 Saturday evening at Cloquet High School.

Lumberjack Head Coach Jeff Ojanen told Northland Sports Online “This is really amazing and a great honor for such a great girl, who works so hard on and off the court.” Kassidy need 12 points entering the game to hit the mark, and she would reach the milestone from the free throw line.

The Lumberjacks who were playing without junior forward Anna Fossen saw the Vikings step out to an early first half lead as they took a 33-21 lead into halftime. The second half the Lumberjacks and the Vikings battled evenly but the 12 point first half lead was took much to over come as Cloquet fell by that twelve point differential.

Steen reaching the 1000 point milestone was the forth player under coach Jeff Ojanen’s career to reach the mark. Jess Vork, Annabel Morrisroe, Jaiden Cofield and now Steen makes the fourth under Ojanen.

Steen also joins Debbie Hunter, Katie Pavelich, Samantha Battaglia, and Kami Diver as the other Cloquet girls players to reach 1000 points.

Steen finished with 24 points, that was followed by Kaylee McMillen who ended with 10, Hazel Ericson added 8, Nicole Blatchford had 4 and Jess Stoned closed the Lumberjack scoring with 2 points.

Morgen Coleman led the Vikings with 17, then it was Courtney Selitschka who added 15 in the win for the Vikings.

The Lumberjacks fall to 10-10 on the season and they will host Tartan Tuesday night at Cloquet High School.
