Lighting End Mirage’s Win Streak

The Grand Rapids-Greenway girls hockey team held on to defeat the Proctor-Hermantown Mirage by a score of 3-2, Tuesday night in Proctor at the Proctor Ice Arena. The Lightning out shot the Class A No. 9 ranked Mirage, 45-17, and a got a pair of goals from Jordan McLaughlin for their 11th win of the season.

Megan Dulong scored a late power play goal in the first period to give the Lighting a 1-0 lead after one period of play, McLaughlin scored at the 6:42 mark in the second to put the Thunderhawks up by a score of 2-0 after two periods of play.

The Mirage got a power play goal from Hannah Johnson midway through the third period to make it a one-goal game at 2-1, Jillayne Gilbert had the lone assist on the Mirage goal. The Lightning responded back at the 11:59 mark with what proved to be the game-winning goal from McLaughlin.

Gilbert added a power play goal at 11:52 which cut the lead to 3-2 but the Mirage were unable to tie the contest up as the Mirage lost for the fist time since December 5th. Callie Hoff and Sophie McGovern had the assists on the  Gilbert goal.

Shannon Hart had 15 saves for the Lightning  in the win, and Ryan Gray had 42 saves for the Mirage in the loss.

The Mirage face the Hibbing-Chisholm Bluejackets Thursday in Hibbing, while the Lighting will face Cloquet-Esko-Carlton at Northwoods Credit Union in Cloquet.
