BARNUM – The Barnum girls basketball team remained perfect on the season, winning their 37th straight game Tuesday night when they topped Hermantown 64-38 at home.

Barnum started strong, opening up with a 10-2 lead. The Hawks however settled in a bit, found some scoring and cut the lead to 23-15 by the 9:00 minute mark. That was as close as Hermantown would get with the Bombers closing out the first half scoring and headed to the locker room up 37-25. Both teams uncharacteristically struggled to get shots to fall in the first half with Barnum shooting 12-28 and Hermantown going 10-24 from the field.

Jess Newman led a balanced attack for the Bombers who saw four of the five starters hit double figures. Newman’s 23 points was followed by 15 from Katie Myhre, all of which came on 3-pointers. They were joined in double figures by Daron Mainville and Claudia Turner with 11 and 10 points respectively. Claire Rogers added 3 while Caitlan Rodgers finished with 2 points.

Rachel Hoium and Mary Neumann led the Hermantown efforts with 11 points each. Others scoring for the Hawks were Nicole Kucza with 6, Carmen Bergstedt 5, Andrea Enockson and Melissa Madison with 2 points each and Ally Dieryck rounded out the Hawks scoring with 1 point.

On an upbeat note for both teams was free throw shooting. Barnum hit 9 of 11 while the Hawks dropped 13 of 14 from the stripe.

The Bombers will host McGregor on Thursday and then travel to Esko in a possible showdown of unbeaten teams next Tuesday. Hermantown will host Proctor on Friday evening.
