There is an old saying in hockey that the hardest lead to hold is a two-goal lead. On Tuesday night that proved to be true for the Moose Lake Area girl’s hockey team. The Rebels held a 2-0 lead in the final period, but were unable to cling to the lead in a 2-2 tie with Superior.

The Rebels gained a 1-0 edge at 3:40 of the first period when Shannon Wilson took a feed from Emily Wasche and got the puck past Spartans goalie Makayla Pitt.

After a scoreless second period the Rebels went ahead 2-0 at 8:39 of the third period on a Jackie Granfors goal with Wasche assisting. However, the Spartans rallied back with a goal just 26 seconds later by Kelsey Hansen at 9:05. Then, with just five seconds remaining in regulation and playing a man down, the Spartans got a shorthanded goal by Kari Miller to tie the game.

There was no scoring in overtime.

Kaitlyn Greene finished with 25 saves for the Rebels, while Pitt finished with 36 saves for the Spartans.
