Jacks Comeback for OT Victory

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton boys hockey team overcame a 4-0 deficit to come-away with a 5-4 win Saturday night over Moundsview  at the Jacks opened their 2014-2015 season with a 5-4 victory at the Vadnias Heights Sports Arena Saturday night.

Derek Blooms second goal of the night gave the Lumberjacks the one goal victory as he scored at 6:48 of overtime on an assist from Reid Davidson, it was a even strength game winning goal. The Jacks would find themselves trailing 3-0 after one period of play Saturday night and then saw the Mustangs make it 4-0 early int he second period.

Dylan Johnson got the Lumberjacks on the scoreboard as he scored a even strength goal at 6:30 of the second period as assisting on the Johnson goal was Koby Bender and Reid Davidson. That was going to be all the scoring in the second period as the Lumberjacks had cut the lead to 4-1 after 2 periods.

The Lumberjacks who out shot the Mustangs 53-26 on the night came out strong in the third period as Hunter Roberts goal cut the Mustangs lead to 4-2 at 6:45 of the third period Nick Niemi and Roberts had the assists. Dylan Johnson then tallied his second goal of the game at 14:12 to cut the Moundsview lead to one at 4-3. Kyle Klatt and Adam Kangas had the assist on Johnson’s goal.

Bloom would then tie the game 26 seconds later when he scored the game tying goal on assists from Dalton Johnson and Bender. Casey Holshouser was the winning goaltender as he stopped 22 of the 26 shots he faced Saturday night. The Jacks start the season 1-0 and they will host Cambridge-Isanti on Tuesday night at Northwoods Credit Union Arena.
